2017 Kia Soul Review: Fun and Unique

The 2017 Kia Soul is a fun little car that is packed with plenty of features. It is a pleasing mix of a hatchback, a wagon, and an SUV.

Pros and Features. According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2017 Soul has a long list of standard and optional features. It also has an attractive cabin complete with user-friendly controls.

While the vehicle appears small, the passenger space is actually roomier than most people expect. The Soul also has excellent crash test scores.

Cons. The ride quality suffers, especially with larger wheels. It also has unimpressive fuel economy compared to other cars in this class.

What's New? According to Car and Driver, the 2017 Kia Soul comes with a new turbocharged engine which ups its power and performance. It is only available for the range-topping Soul ! model.

Models. The 2017 Soul comes in three different models: base, + (plus), and ! (exclaim). The base model features a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine capable of 130 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a six-speed MT and there is also an option for AT.

The Soul + gets a 2.0-liter engine capable of 161 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. It is only available in automatic transmission. The Soul ! has a new 1.6-liter turbocharged engine capable of 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This model has a seven-speed dual clutch AT.

The base Soul features 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system. The Soul + adds bigger 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights, fog lights, and remote keyless entry. It also has selectable drive modes. automatic climate control, and cruise control.

The Soul ! includes all of the features of the Soul + with more extras. This includes bigger 18-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Verdict. The 2017 Kia Soul is a fun little car that holds more than it looks. It has a wide array of features and a decent price tag. For those who want to try something new, this car is definitely for you.
