12 Cruises Canceled By Carnival After Engine Fire, Over 4,000 Passengers Were Stranded (VIDEO)

Carnival Cruise Lines has officially canceled all scheduled trips until April according to the Associated Press.

An engine fire disabled the cruise ship and will cost the company a lot of money to repair, but their main concern is their tarnished reputation.

"My mother is a cruise travel agent so this is not my first rodeo," said Debbi Smedley, a passenger on a recent Triumph cruise according to Yahoo "I have sailed many, many cruises, many, many cruise lines. This was, by far, I have to say, the worst."

The fire disabled the Carnival Cruise Ship Triumph's propulsion and power for many of the ships required facilities like kitchens and even bathrooms. Over 4,000 passengers and crew members on the ship were taken off by three tug boats and dropped off at Mobile, Alabama according to a report by The Los Angeles Times.

The report also claims that the Carnival line is offering to reimburse passengers for the cruise fare, transportation costs and over $500 each. All scheduled trips through April have been canceled.

Robert Giordano stated to Yahoo that he hasn't talked to his wife, Shannon, since Monday. She stated that before getting on the phone with him, she had to wait three hours to get a single hot dog and people were forced to use bags to go to the bathroom.

"They're having to urinate in the shower. They've been passed out plastic bags to go to the bathroom," Giordano said. "There was fecal matter all over the floor."

Many people chose a four-day cruise instead of the traditional week-long option so they wouldn't be away from their children for too long. Instead of providing a relaxing getaway, the cruise has been described as "a nightmare."

"We know it has been a longer journey back than we anticipated at the beginning of the week under very challenging circumstances," Carnival President and CEO Gary Cahill said. "We are very sorry for what our guests have had to endure."
