Samsung Will Start Selling Refurbished Samsung Galaxy Note 7 This Coming June

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was recalled twice and then ended last year, but some buyers may get another shot at owning the device this 2017. A new report out of Korea stated that Samsung is planning to sell refurbished models of the device starting June.

The thing is that the refurbished devices would only be sold in emerging markets such as Vietnam and India. Samsung will reportedly equip the devices with a smaller battery. The original Note 7s had a 3,500mAh battery, but the refurbished models will have a 3,000mAh or 3,200mAh battery.

The news was first announced by the Korean news site Hankyung, which found out that Samsung, wants to give it another try. Some sources told the Korean news site that "it is a reflection of the fact that excessive battery capacity has been the cause of ignition."

Samsung reportedly plans to switch out the cases of the handset for a new model, but still, keep the original core parts. In addition, Samsung still has around 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 phones left, so by selling reconditioned models could be a great alternative to simply throwing out all of those phones.

The decision is much different from where the company stood in October that it had no plans to repair or refurbish the handsets with battery problems. Daily.com tried to contact Samsung for comment and has yet to receive a comment.

A few months ago, Samsung took the stage in New York to reveal its new 5.7-inch handset, a place where the company also saw an opportunity to take a stab at the giant tech, Apple. However, within a few days of the launch, it appeared Samsung didn't succeed well after reports stated that the device was bursting into flames.

Before the first reports of explosion surfaced, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was 2016's gadgets of the year. It had impressive reviews with its excellent display, camera, stylus, and iris-scanner.
