The 2018 Ford Expedition. The new Expedition is an eight-passenger SUV that is longer, lighter, and bigger. Its new frame has extended its wheelbase by 3 inches. The whole vehicle is lengthier and wider by an inch compared to the previous model.
According to Ford, the 2018 Expedition gets around 40 additional features and drive-assist tech. It now sports an aluminum body instead of a steel one.
The new Ford Expedition sports a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine with auto-stop-start. The engine is paired with Ford's new 10-speed automatic transmission which is operated via a knob.
There aren't any details yet as to the 2018 model's fuel economy. It is, however, expected to be a lot better. The SUV has four-wheel drive and electronic limited-slip rear differential systems that help with off-road performance. It also comes with the Terrain Management System which the Explorer also has.
The 2018 Ford Expedition retains the independent rear suspension and continuously controlled damping from the previous model although it does have a new and more rigid frame. It comes in 18-inch, 20-inch, and 22-inch wheels. However, fleet vehicles can always opt for 17-inch ones.
One can see a noticeably higher beltline on the 2018 Ford Expedition giving it the appearance of a safer and more secure car. Its C-pillar design suggests a stronger roof. It sports a panorama roof over the first two rows and a flat load floor below. Its cargo management system's offering is quite generous.
Inside is a roomy cubby space, two glove boxes, 17 cupholders, and a huge storage bin at the center. Wi-Fi connectivity can accommodate up to 10 devices and has a range of 50 feet. Additional features include four 12-volt power outlets, an 110-volt outlet, and six USB ports. There is also support for wireless charging.
The 2018 Expedition has the Sync 3 infotainment system and supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has Sync Connect that enables FordPass on a smartphone which can then be used to start, lock, or locate the vehicle in, say, a parking lot. Screens are mounted on the front-seat headrest for second-row entertainment purposes.
Safety features include cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go ability, lane keeping assist, and blind spot detection. This is all supported by a mounted 360-degree camera.
The new Expedition will go on sale in the fall of this year. It will be offered in three trims namely Limited, XLT, and Platinum.
