Jaguar Land Rover i54 Plant To Go Into Full Petrol Engine Production Very Soon

Jaguar Land Rover has announced that its i54 plant will be going into full production. Its Wolverhampton factory is set to start manufacturing petrol engines for the first time.

JLR's i54 manufacturing plant. Ever since before, the company's Wolverhampton plant has only made diesel engines for its vehicles namely the Jaguar, Range Rover, and Land Rover Discovery models. This will change soon as the company has announced that the plant will be manufacturing petrol engines for the 2018 F-Pace, XF, and XE models.

Petrol engine production hasn't started yet as the car manufacturer is still busy doing tests. However, full-scale production of the engines may start soon, perhaps in a few weeks, since the 2018 models have already been made available for orders and deliveries.

The production will help the company achieve its goal of creating 1,400 jobs in the car manufacturing industry. JLR is expected to hit 1,400 jobs within the year when petrol engine production reaches its peak

Aside from the petrol engine production, the company is also expected to create more jobs as soon as work on the enormous extension to its plant is finished. The extension was started back in 2012 and has brought JLR's investment at the site to a whopping US$1 billion.

There are currently no details on the extension but speculations are saying that it will be used to expand the company's engine manufacturing. The expansion is expected to create more or less 1,000 jobs on top of the 1,400 planned.

The F-Pace, XF, and XE models were so popular that it helped Jaguar Land Rover sell over 34,728 vehicles the previous year. 2016 sales basically broke a 12-year old record being 17 per cent higher than 2015's sales performance. The production of petrol engines for these models should help the company maintain or even beat that performance for 2017.
