"Grand Theft Auto V", which was originally supposed to be released sometime during the spring, has now reportedly been pushed back until Sept. 17, according to a post on the Rockstar Games website.

Rockstar had originally stated in October that the new video game would be released in spring 2013.

The delay comes as a disappointment for the game series loyal fans, but the post did promise users that the wait will be "worth the extra time." The company explained the delay in more detail since they felt their fans deserved an explanation according to GameTrailers.com.

"GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require," the blog post said on the Rockstar website. "To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September- we thank you for your support and patience."

Rockstar has done a good job teasing fans the past few months, having released a number of different screen shots of the new game already. The company has also released a trailer, which will have to keep fans excited for a little while longer now.

The game has already been advertised as Rockstar's "largest in-game world" that they have ever developed according to SlashGear.com. GTA V will feature three new leading characters, and that's place in Los Santos, one of the major cities used in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas".

The news also has to be a disappointment to investors of Take Two, which has started earning a reputation for delays. They've already pushed back the release of "Bioshock: Infinite," which could mean they're just very dedicated towards releasing the best video games as they possibly can, or video game designers haven't met expectations.

The game will be released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but the company hasn't stated yet if a PC or Wii U version will be made available.
