Nexus Tablet Update: New Google Device With Full HD Display Could Come In May 2013

DigiTimes, a Taiwanese publication that covers tech manufacturing, states that the next Google Nexus device will be out a lot sooner than most originally believed. The new report claims interested customers can expect a new Nexus tablet out no later than May 2013.

The report cited "multiple sources" that Google is once again working with Asus on a tablet that will include new features to intrigue new buyers and make older ones consider upgrading.

Google's I/O conference is scheduled to take place between May 15 and May 17 according to the report, so all signs indicate the company will most likely use at least one of those days to show-off the new Nexus device.

The device is rumored to contain a Full, 1920 x 1080 HD resolution display, with a smaller bezel around the screen according to DigiTimes.

"The machine will also feature Google's upgraded Jelly Bean-based Android operating system to enhance integration between the software and the hardware," according to the report by DigiTimes.com.

There was never a question of if Google would release a new Nexus tablet thanks to the success of the Nexus 7, but it was unclear for awhile which step the company would take next to capitalize on the popularity of the device.

The current Nexus 7 sells for approximately $199.99 for the 8GB model, so the newer version will cost at least that much. The 16GB goes for $249 and the 32GB version sells for $299.

Combined shipments of the first and second generation Nexus 7 is expected to reach 10 million units in 2013.
