Jaguar Land Rover and Shell's New App Can Let Cars Pay For Fuel On Their Own

Jaguar Land Rover announced that they are teaming up with Shell to launch the latest feature that will allow drivers to pay for gasoline without getting out of the car. The latest feature will be offered in the 2018 Jaguar F-Pace, XE, and XF models, and will use Paypal or Apple Pay to make the secure payments.

Drivers of the selected car models mentioned above will now be able to use their car's touchscreen display to pay for fuel at associated gas stations, with the latest cashless technology payment app created by Shell. However, the new service will only be offered at all of Shell's UK stations as of now. The automaker says that they have plans to introduce the new feature worldwide later this year.

Peter Virk, Jaguar Land Rover's Director of Connected Car and Future Technology, said in a statement, "In a world where cash is no longer king, customers are increasingly using electronic payments and contactless cards. Making a payment directly from a car's touchscreen will make refueling quicker and easier," he added.

The new Shell app is designed to work only at Shell service stations, with 43,000 globally and counting. The app will allow users to choose which pump and how much fuel they wish to buy in advance. The electronic payment is fast and secure as well.

The automaker is convinced that this is only the beginning of a wireless in-car payment revolution. They are also working to utilize this new app to other situations, such as parking and drive-through restaurants.

Nowadays, there are a lot of pumps that are already self-service with integrated credit or debit card payments. However, it can still be risky due to the card-cloning systems of today. Jaguar Land Rover's new service is now available in the U.K and will be hitting to more Jaguar owners around the world later this year.
