Honda Civic Sport 2017 Review: Speedy and Sentimental Type R Prelude

The Honda Civic 2017 Sport is a hatchback that is fast and powerful. It is the perfect tenth-generation teaser for the much-awaited Civic Type R which will release later this year.

Pros and Features. Most people believe hatchbacks to be tiny and cramped. However, the new Civic Sport is a hatchback that has a lot of room. Even its rear has surprisingly ample utility space for extra gear. Additionally, it is made of high-quality materials.

Car Throttle noted that the car also has a bold and daring look that many liken to be a Type R prelude. It is very attractive with an overtly sporty design that even has faux intakes and vents in both bumpers. It also has a fast roofline and a well-designed spoiler integrated between the C-shaped taillights.

Under the hood of the Honda Civic Sport is a stock 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This is capable of 180 horsepower similar to the old-school, six-speed manual, as noted by Business Insider. Additionally, while the clutch felt vague, the shifter was reported to be very smooth and precise.

The Sport offers a nice smooth and energetic ride. The turbocharged engine with the six-speed stick shift go very well together and require little to no effort to pinpoint the torque curve.

Regarding the handling, the Civic Sport's suspension has been set up for comfortable daily driving. Drivers won't need to worry about it being too low. Something that would be better for the complete speed racer would be the Civic Si or the Type R, which were really built for speed and performance.

Finally, the car also has very good fuel economy. The Honda Civic Sport is expected to return 30 miles per gallon on fuel economy mode for city driving and up to 39 mph for highway driving. These are figures from the EPA.

Cons. The Honda hatchback's touchscreen interface is confusing and responds slowly to inputs. Note that the Sport, unlike the regular sedan, has buttons but it is still relatively annoying for some users. It also has a slow-responding adaptive cruise control system. In addition, the overly vigilant forward collision warning system has been a source of frustration for many.

Those who opt for the CVT will also be disappointed. It is slow to respond and very lethargic overall.

The Honda Civic Sport 2017 is great for those who want the sporty package, a decent and fast ride, with good fuel efficiency. For those who want something even faster, they should opt for the Civic Si and the Type R.
