Tesla Model S P100D’s 2.28-Second 0-60 Time Is Now Faster Than The 949-HP Ferrari LaFerrari?

The Tesla Model S P100D has just an astonishing feat by running from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.28 seconds during a test conducted by Motor Trend. The test is historical for the electric vehicle since no other production car has ever recorded this outrageous acceleration. Tesla did that in 2.275507139 seconds. Beat that Ferrari LaFerrari!

A software update made that feat possible for the Tesla Model S P100D which was in Ludicrous Mode. This record is very impressive for the nearly 5,000-pound supercar. Now, the Tesla is the world's fastest accelerating production vehicle. So, how does the super-Tesla pulled away at a faster speed than LaFerrari?

Jason Fenske, the genius behind popular YouTube channel Engineering Explained, attributed the Tesla's face-melting acceleration to several factors including big power, all-wheel-drive traction, and superior grip. Fenske offered further explanation on the third factor which is the most interesting.

According to Fenske, a car's breaking distance figures play an important role in determining the quickest acceleration a vehicle is capable of. The absolute maximum grip of a car is only fully realized when it is braking at its full capacity and when given infinite power output.

The Motor Trend test detailed how the Model S P100D accelerated like a real jerk on the road. However, this advantage is not an exclusive bailiwick for the Elon Musk EV because higher speeds favor horsepower over instant torque. The Tesla is slower to the Ferrari LaFerrari at 70 mph while the Porsche 918 and McLaren P1 can leave dust at 80 mph. The Tesla is only quicker than any street legal cars at 30, 40, 50, and 60 miles per hour.

See the video below to know how the Tesla achieved 60 mph at 2.8 seconds as explained by Fenske. Share your thoughts on the new achievement made by the Model S P100D.
