Honda Civic Type R 2017 Black Edition Review: Black and Beastly Swansong

The Honda Civic Type R 2017 Black Edition is a total visual stand out. It has a wild and entertaining ride and features more power as well.

2017 Civic Type R Black Edition. The 2017 Type R Black Edition was announced last month. Honda limited it to only 100 units, as reported by Auto Car UK. The limited Black Edition signaled the close of the ninth generation Civic Type R FK 2. In addition, there were only 2,500 Type R variants produced since 2015.

What sets the car apart is its distinct black visual appeal using a glossy black exterior paint with red accents and details. It also has a unique black and red interior color scheme as well.

Auto Express UK reported that the car retails for $39,300 (£32,300). While it costs the same as the range-topping Civic Type R GT model, it will have a potentially larger resell value due to its very limited availability. In addition, all 100 units were produced and only limited to the UK market.

Under the Honda Civic Type R Black Edition's hood is the same engine and power as the regular Type R. It has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged VTEC engine. It is front-wheel-drive and capable of 306 horsepower and 298 lb-ft of torque. The impressively fast car can do 0 to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds.

This car was made to be tamed by experienced drivers. It is not ideal for regular city driving. An experienced and capable driver who knows what he or she is doing should be behind the wheel. This car was made to scream.

Meanwhile, the tenth-generation 2018 Civic Type R is also expected to start shipping by the end of the year. This time, it will be available in the United States as well! The car is projected to be powerful and will come in manual-only transmission. While there was talk about a  CVT variant, Honda has officially debunked this claim. The tenth-generation Type R will only be available in manual transmission, like its predecessor.

If you're wondering if you should get a Honda Civic Type R Black Edition, you need to be quick. Only a handful of the units is left. If you're a fan of the color and detailing and want a limited edition car, this would be a good idea. What do you think about the Black Edition? Thoughts and comments below.
