NASCAR driver Danica Patrick has officially filed for divorce from her husband Paul Hospenthal according to a report by Sporting News. Patrick first revealed the news that she was divorcing Hospenthal, a physical therapist, on Facebook in November 2012.
Patrick, one of NASCAR's most popular drivers, filed for divorce in the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County according to Sporting News. The couple have a prenuptial agreement, and neither side will require alimony.
Patrick and Hospenthal have no children, and there have been no incidents of domestic violence according to the reports.
"I am sad to inform my fans that after 7 years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage," Patrick wrote on her Facebook page. "This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."
Arizona is a "no-fault" divorce state, requiring no reason for a divorce. The divorce can't be completed for at least 60 days from the time Hospenthal was served with divorce papers according to The Huffington Post. Hospenthal is 17 years older than Patrick, who met the driver while treating her for an injury in 2002.
"My marriage is irretrievably broken and there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation," Patrick stated in her filing. "
Patrick finished third in the 2009 Indianapolis 500, the highest finish for a female ever in the race. She's already confirmed she won't be racing in the 500 this year so that she can focus on her second full season as a NASCAR driver
Instead, Patrick plans on racing in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a race that will be held on the same day as the 500. Patrick competed in the same race last year after skipping the 2012 500.
"The team and I decided to focus on (Sprint) Cup," said Patrick according to Sporting News. "It's going to be plenty of work as it is, and it's going to be important for me running for the championship full-time for the first time to really keep myself focused with the Cup car. But If I do do the Indy 500 moving forward, it will be with Go Daddy."
