AOL editors mainly chose the new Ram due to its smooth ride, a new 8-speed powertain system with the best-in-class fuel economy for any similar vehicle in its segment. The new Ram also features and improved interior and RamBox storage bins.

"The quality of new trucks has never been higher and our job of separating the wheat from the chaff has never been more difficult," said David Kiley-Chief Automotive Editor, AOL Autos in a press statement. "Within our judging system the 2013 Ram 1500 was hands down our leading choice and winner of the AOL Autos Truck/SUV of the Year."

The Ram 1500 was also recently named Motor Trend Truck of the Year at a ceremony in December.

The 1500 reportedly offers interested buyers a best-in-class 25 mpg fuel economy and new technology features, without having to sacrifice features that fans have grown to love from the 1500 series according to Chrysler. Arguably the most recognizable pickup truck on the road, Ram equipped the new vehicle with a number of different engine options, like the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine, and the Pentastar V-6.

Other features buyers can expect includes an 8-speed automatic transmission, thermal management system, grille shutters, and a stop-start system.

The base price for the new vehicle starts at around $23,585 after including the $995 destination fee according to the press release.

"We're extremely pleased that AOL Autos, a well-known source for automotive information, has deemed the 2013 Ram 1500 as their choice for Truck of the Year," said Fred Diaz , President and CEO Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC in a press release. "A recommendation from AOL is fantastic news for our dealers and customers, and further recognizes Ram Truck for delivering uncompromising high quality, capability and technology."
