A woman traveling on an American Airlines flight from Brazil to Dallas, TX passed away this week according to ABC. The plane was reportedly diverted and landed in Houston, TX after the woman became ill.

Airport officials have not been able to determine what caused the woman to pass away, and medical examiners are planning on conducting an autopsy to find out.

Airport officials called homicide detectives to George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Jan. 2 after learning that the American Airlines Flight 962 was coming into Houston due to a medical emergency. The passenger was pronounced dead soon after the plane landed according to a report by the Associated Press.

"There was no sign of trauma and no foul play is suspected," Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said to the Associated Press.

Police have yet to confirm the name of the 25-year-old woman, and the airline could not provide any information on her to the Associated Press. She reportedly went into medical distress before a doctor, who happened to be on board, performed emergency procedures on her.

The Boeing 777 plane left Sao Paolo at approximately 1:12 a.m. with 220 passengers and 14 crew members heading to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport according to airport officials.

Federal law requires defibrillators on every flight with a maximum payload capacity of 7,500 according to Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown. The rule covers major airliners and requires flight attendants to have CPR and defibrillator training at least once every two years.

Every American Airlines flight has an "extensive medical kit" and an automated external defibrillator according to American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller in an interview with the Associated Press.

The FAA reportedly doesn't keep track of onboard deaths or "medical diversions."
