Alfa Romeo could unveil a coupe version of its newly launched Giulia sedan during the Geneva Motor Show that will kick start on March 7. Named Giulia Sprint, the coupe would likely compete with the likes of BMW 4-series, Mercedes-Benz C-class coupes, and Audi A5.
According to Motoring, this will likely be called the Giulia Sprint. This 2-door mid-sizer is named after the 1960s and 1970s coupe. This will drive on the same Giorgio platform used in the Giulia sedan. There is no evidence supports Motoring's claim other than Alfa Romeo's 5-year business plan that includes 2 "specialty" models, as cited by the website.
If what has been claimed is true, then the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint will be the second member of the Giulia model and the 3rd variant to roll off from the Giorgio platform. The Giulia sedan and the Stelvio SUV are the other two. Further, an upcoming convertible is also reported to be on the way, which could be named Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider.
In terms of the engine for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint, this could be offered with the same engine options as that of the Giulia sedan, reports Motor Trend. This includes a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 280 horses and the twin turbo 2.9-liter V6 that produces 505 horsepower found in the Quadrifoglio. The 2.2-liter diesel will be received by the rest of the world.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint will likely be priced a little bit higher compared with the sedan. This would probably be around $160,000.
Alfa Romeo's business plan included 8 models by 2020 using the Giorgio platform. One of these is the Stelvio SUV which debuted last year in LA. Plus, 2 other SUVs, a hatchback, and a full-size sedan are also on the way.
