Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 Will Feature Legends Race With Tracy Edwards MBE And Her Maiden Team

The highly anticipated Volvo Ocean Race will feature an exciting Legends Race in celebration of its 45th anniversary. The final leg will feature yachts which have joined from 1973 in the Whitbread Round the World Race or Volvo Ocean Race, including Tracy Edwards MBE and her Maiden Team.

Volvo has released a statement revealing the special Legends Race in the final leg of the 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race. According to the press statement, the Legends Race will cover from Gothenburg to The Hague.

The announcement was presented at the yacht racing seminar Meetingspot in Gothenburg where Tracy Edwards MBE was also present. Tracy Edwards MBE of Maiden team won the all-female crew in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race in the 1989-90 race and became the first female to be awarded the Yachtsman of the Year trophy.

Tracy Edwards MBE expressed her plans to enjoin her team in the 2018 race. The British sailor said that Maiden, her yacht, has been in a "sad state" in the Seychelles a few years back. Tracy Edwards MBE envisions to restore and bring back Maiden's glory again by joining the Legends Race.

The British sailor detailed that Maiden will be shipped to the UK for the restoration program. She also mentioned that they are targeting to gather again the original all-female team members from 1989-90 race to join the Legends Race 2018.

Furthermore, the Volvo Ocean 60 class, Maxi class is reportedly being planned to be included in the Legends Race 2018. Since a favorable number of fans have been supporting the event from Sweden and Holland, the Maxi class would be an important feature in the Legends Race 2018, Marine Link reported.

Meanwhile, in the official website of Volvo Ocean Race, the list of stopovers for the upcoming 2017-2018 edition has been listed. The boats will make some quick stopovers at Alicante, Lisbon, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Auckland, Itajai, Newport (RI), Cardiff, Gothenburg, and The Hague.
