The Ford Focus is a main reason the company was so successful this year in the U.S., but it is also on course to become the best-selling global nameplate vehicle this year. The Ford Fiesta is expected to be the best-selling B and C-Car in the world based on the latest Polk global industry data report.

"Focus and Fiesta represent the best of our One Ford plan," said Jim Farley, Ford's executive vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln. "In just three years, Ford has transformed our global small car lineup and started winning over customers worldwide with vehicles that are not only fun-to-drive but also fuel-efficient - largely thanks to our award-winning EcoBoost engines."

New registrations for Focus vehicles surpassed 737,856 through September, making it the world's top-selling vehicle nameplate in 2012. The Fiesta totaled 560,061 during the same time period, meaning the vehicle is the world's best-selling B-Car according to the Polk report.

Ford is on pace to sell over 520,000 EcoBoost-powered vehicles by the end of the year, the highest total since the engine was introduced in 2009. The new 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder engine will arrive in the U.S. in 2013 and will be found in the new Fiesta model. The engine is already available in Europe according to the press release.

"Over the last three years, we've been moving toward global vehicles," said Erich Merkle, a Ford sales analyst in an interview with Bloomberg. "And it's playing out very well here in the U.S., where the Focus will be up 40 percent this year, and in Asia, where Focus is one of the best- selling vehicles in the region."

Ford is the only brand in 2012 to have three vehicles in the top 10 best-selling models worldwide according to Polk. Their F-Series vehicles are the fourth best-selling models globally totaling 576,339 new vehicle registrations in 2012.

"Customers around the world are rewarding Ford for investing in fuel-efficient new vehicles, from our fun-to-drive EcoBoost-powered small cars to our hard-working, capable F-Series pickups," Farley said. "No other automaker in the world shares Ford's extensive volume or range of EcoBoost engines - from the 1.0-liter that drives our small cars to the 3.5-liter that has been a winner with truck and large crossover owners around the globe."
