Best Selling Cars and Trucks From 2016-2017

There is no question, the United States auto market had a hot streak when it comes to selling cars and trucks in 2016. With more than 17.4 million cars and trucks sold last year, the market continues to grow in 2017.

As most would expect, the pickup trucks and SUVs are to blame for the majority of the increase in sales. Sedans are still popular. However, according to Business Insider, the influence when it comes to sales volumes on the US auto market declining for the past few years.

According to reports, the sales of the compact car fell 6.1% in 2016. There was also a remarkable plummet when it comes to its mid-size counterpart at 11.2%.

While most mid-size family cars didn't get a great start of the year, pick up trucks are certainly picking up the slack. Since January 2017, pickups have strong sales numbers.

It is apparent that most shoppers kept the full-sized models on the top of their list. The Ford F-Series is up on 12.5 percent and remains to be the best-selling model by a huge margin.

According to Cars.com, the industry's overall decline was expected by most automakers. Analysts are also hardly panicking. It was anticipated since the post-election stock market has generally benefited investors and consumer confidences are still strong.

Business Insider had a rundown of the best-selling cars and trucks from the year 2016 to 2017. The Hyundai Elantra is number 20 in the list, having sold 208,319 units during the year 2016. Still, it's sales numbers are down by 13.8% since 2015.

On the other hand, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is gaining momentum, increasing 8.1% in sales, selling 212,273 units by the end of 2016. The Nissan Sentra is also on the best-selling list at number 18. It sold 214,709 units, increasing 5.5% in sales.

Naturally, the best-selling cars and trucks list will not be complete without the GMC Sierra, selling 221,680 units. Amongst the top five are Ford F-Series with 820,799 units sold, Chevrolet Silverado with 574,876 units sold, RAM Trucks with 489,418, Toyota Camry at 388,616 and Honda Civic at 366,927.
