Switch. The Nintendo Switch is the Japanese gaming giant's newest console which was officially unveiled last month. On Jan. 12, the Japanese gaming company officially made its big announcement and showcased the new console including the upcoming games and actual gameplay footage.
The new console is a hybrid gaming console capable of both traditional TV-display gaming as well as portable handheld gaming. The Switch allows users to play it as-is or they may plug into its docking station.
The unit will cost $299.99. This is inclusive of a console, a docking station, two Joy-Con controllers, Joy-Con straps for the controllers, a Joy-Con Grip, a power adapter, and an HDMI cable. The new console is said to be replacing the Wii U which officially stopped production a few days ago.

While the stocks are very limited and most of the pre-orders have been filled, Pocket Lint reports that it is expected that high street stores will have some units allocated on launch day. This will be on Mar. 3 and customers may need to line up so it would be best to arrive there early. In the past, some customers have been known to camp out at their favorite retailers the night before a big launch.
Response to Criticism. Gamespot reports that Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has emphasized that the Switch's launch may appear weak but it is only the start for the new hybrid console. Kimishima further said that they will continue to provide new titles regularly without long gaps. They will ensure that consumers will continue to actively play the new system and that there will be continued sales momentum for the product.
The criticism came as a result of the poor game choices for the Switch. At this point, only two games will be available for the launch: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a mini-game compilation pack. In addition, other third party launch titles are available as well.
The Nintendo Switch looks to be very promising. While only a few games are available, they have already addressed concerns by promising a steady release of games. If you haven't already pre-ordered your unit, you still have a chance to avoid long queues during release day.
