Microsoft Surface Phone Update: Announcement To Happen In Late 2017 And To Launch In 2018

Ever since news about Microsoft's restructuring of Microsoft Mobile and integration to Windows and Devices were announced, speculations on a possible Microsoft Surface Phone have abounded on the internet. The speculations were further fueled when Surface executive Panos Panay went over to head the new Microsoft Devices unit back in 2015.

Expected Microsoft Surface Phone release date. Previous news speculated that the Surface Phone would be announced in mid-2016. Since that time passed, new speculations now say that the release has been moved to 2018. This is due to the long period needed to develop a capable smartphone with engaging and interesting new features. In the meantime, we are seeing Microsoft's Lumia making a comeback which started in January to the fill the void.

A report by Yibada states that the Surface Phone will have similar specs as the Lumia XL. It will supposedly feature a 5.5-inch display touchscreen with quad HD resolution and 1440 by 2560 pixel resolution.

Current Surface devices support Continuum, a Windows 10 feature that involves the user interface automatically adapting to certain situations. This feature will supposedly be also available on the Surface Phone along with Quick Charge 4.0 and 6 gigabytes of RAM. The Surface Phone is expected to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 processor.

The operating system for the Surface Phone looks to be the Windows 10 Mobile Redstone 3. However, reports are saying that the Redstone 3 is struggling in comparison to the more widely used Android OS and Apple iOS.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed that the tech giant is in the process of developing its next-generation flagship device. This device could also possibly be the much-awaited Microsoft Surface Pro 5. Nadella hinted that the device will have all the features of a high-performance device which will be more than enough to compete with current market players.
