Another Hack Can Pack The NES Classic Edition With 700 Games

A British hacker has developed a method to squeeze 700 games onto the NES Classic. Details of the method are posted to YouTube where instructions are provided on adding full ROM sets to the retro console. However, this also ruins the device's warranty so this method is only for the brave souls.

The hacker's online name is Tooty UK who also posted the console hack on code-sharing site GitHub. The instructions on YouTube are under 30 minutes but there are also step-by-step full instructions for Mac and PC.

Nintendo released the NES Classic Edition to the market last year as a strictly closed system. Packed with 30 of the Japanse gaming giant's all-time favorite games, the console remains untouched until a group of hackers figured out how to add more games to the much-sought gadget.

Earlier this month, hackers figured out how to include more games in the console beyond its 30 built-in offerings. The Russian hacker named Madmonkey shocked the gaming community by developing instructions on how to add more games to Nintendo's much sought after device. The instructions remain available on the Reddit thread.

This week, GitHub user ClusterM developed an app called Hakchi2 that allows the console's users to hop from one game to the next in a flash without pressing the reset button. The app offers a shortcut to return to the home screen by pressing the down and select buttons simultaneously.

The update resolves the annoying feature of the console that requires users to push the physical Reset button every time they switch games or load a suspend point. Despite its old charm, the console is a source of annoyance for users who want faster access to their games.

These hacks have the potential to invalidate the warranty of the NES Classic. The latest hack requires console owners to go to GitHub where they can download the newest version of the Nintendo ROM management system and install.
