Toyota Supra 2018: The Legend Will Soon Return, More Details Are Now Known!

The Toyota Supra 2018 was recently spotted undergoing winter testing. The latest prototype shows more details which make it look very similar to the 2018 BMW Z5 roadster.

The new Supra and the Z5 are being developed together in a joint engineering venture. This will resurrect one of the Japanese car manufacturer's greatest performance model vehicles. The car previously went out of production in 2002 and was first introduced in 1978.

The all-new fifth-generation Supra was first previewed during the 2014 Detroit motor show. The new sports car will reach showrooms during the second half of 2018. It will come in gas and hybrid-electric drivetrains.

The car's body will be mostly aluminum with a smooth and crisp appearance. It will have a two-door layout and liftback-style tailgate as well. Its rear will have a shallow parcel shelf and a boot size similar to the current Porsche 718 Cayman.

The resurrected Toyota Supra is also expected to only be available in a fixed-roof coupe style. The Z5 will, on the other hand, is expected to be available as a roadster only and will act as a replacement to the discontinued Z4. This move was done to ensure that there will be no overlap of sales between the Toyota and BMW siblings.

The latest prototype now reveals some new details. Its rear lights and front bumper are different from the Z5 models seen. In addition, the tail lamps are also longer and sharper, similar to the FT-1 Concept style.

The Toyota Supra is expected to have similar engines as its BMW counterpart. The Z5 comes in 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder units which is also a possibility for the Supra. In addition, hybrid technology has already been revealed previously. Moreover, further reports suggest that the hybrid powertrain will feature a turbocharged V6 engine with an output of around 400 horsepower for the range-topping version of the sports car.

In addition, the Japanese car manufacturer intends to launch its new sports car under its newly launched road performance brand "Gazoo." Gazoo Racing envisions making "ever-better" cars. They want to forge new technologies and solutions under motorsports extreme conditions. At this point, it is still unknown if the new Supra will be a Toyota or a Gazoo.

The all-new Toyota Supra 2018 is expected to launch next year. This will be around one year after the launch of the Z5.
