There are essentially four main types of Honda Civic models to choose from - the reliable sedan, the sporty hatchback, the powerful Type R, and the elegant Si. Choosing the right Civic depends on the needs of the user.
Sedan vs. Hatchback. The difference between the two Civics are apparent in their name - one is a sedan while the other is a hatchback. But apart from their cargo areas, the difference between the two are more than most would think.
The Civic sedan and hatchback's design differences are most evident at the rear. The sedan has a sloped roof line similar to a couple that meets a short trunk opening. The hatchback also has a sloped roof line but its back window is directly attached to the hatchback. The hatchback is therefore 4 inches shorter in overall length.
Additionally, the hatchback has large black cut-out areas on the outer portions of its front and rear bumper. These look like large vents. The sedan has glossy black elements, even on its wheels. The hatchback looks more aggressive as a whole while the sedan looks more elegant.
The interior of both the cars is essentially the same. The cargo area of the two Honda Civics is very different. The sedan has a very large trunk while the hatchback's cargo area is much smaller in length.
The sedan has an LX trim that comes with a standard 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. The hatchback has the same 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine across all of its different models.
Tech-wise both cars are essentially the same and have the same upgrade options. The hatchback is more fun to drive because of its suspension and steering. Safety-wise both Honda Civic cars are top picks as well.
Type R vs. Si. The Civic Si is a coupe or regular sedan. It is a high-performance and very elegant and sophisticated looking car. The Type R, on the other hand, has a very powerful engine and a sporty and aggressive look.
The Si is available in either a coupe or sedan. It will have an upgraded version of the base Civic's 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It will still be good for a daily drive and relatively fun to drive.
The Type R is a beast of a car. It is very powerful and won't be easy to drive. It will be high-maintenance and demanding and will require a top-notch driver to be able to time it.
Both cars are for high performance compared to the regular sedan and hatchback. But apart from that, both the Type R and the Si are two very different cars.
The four different Honda Civic models are very different. Choosing the right one depends on the needs of the user, as well as their price range. However, it is safe to say that all four types are all great cars.
