Ford’s 2.0-Liter EcoBoost Engine Found In Taurus And Focus ST Wins Second Ward’s 10 Best Engines Award

Ford Motor Co's 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine won a coveted 10 Best Engines trophy from WardsAuto World this week according to a press release issued today by Ford.

Every fall the editors of WardsAuto World evaluate and examine the most powerful and productive engines released in the past year by putting each through "rigorous testing" according to the magazine's website. Editors test for the best combination of performance, fuel efficiency, value, and refinement.

The 2.0-liter direct-injected engine is manufactured in Valencia, Spain and is Ford's premiere engine that can power vehicles like the Focus ST and Taurus.

"The EcoBoost Taurus and Focus ST really show just how versatile and capable the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine is," said Joe Bakaj, Ford vice president of Powertrain Engineering in the press release. The Focus ST is the first performance application for EcoBoost, and it really delivers the goods." "The 2.0-liter EcoBoost in the Taurus replaces a V6 and delivers great all-around performance, along with best-in-class 32 mpg on the highway."

The Focus ST can achieve 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft. of torque thanks to the 2.0-liter engine. The vehicle can also go 0 to 60 in around six seconds as well.

Ford has sold 520,000 EcoBoost vehicles since its debut in 2009. The EcoBoost family includes the 1.0-liter three cylinder engine which will be coming to America for the first time this coming year when the 2014 Ford Fiesta is released. Other engines include the 1.6-liter found in the Ford Escape and Fusion, and 2.0-liter option that can be found in the Focus ST, Fusion, Taturus and Explorer to name a few. A 3.5-liter V6 option is also available as well.

Overall Ford holds around 125 patents for EcoBoost technologies according to the press release.

"There are lots of 2.0-liter turbocharged engines out there now," said Drew Winter, editor in chief of WardsAuto World magazine in a press statement. "What impresses us most this year is EcoBoost's versatility. It is very entertaining as a performance car engine in the Focus ST. But what really amazes us is that it also is a perfect match for the two-ton Taurus family sedan. Even loaded down with passengers, the engine delivers all the power needed and better fuel economy than a V6."

Last year the 2.0-liter engine won a 10 Best Engine award which can be found in the Ford Edge crossover according to Ford.
