Delorean DMC-12 'Back to the Future' Vehicle Is Set to Return in October!

Great news for Delorean and "Back to the Future" fans: the DMC-12 is set to return in October of this year. The Texas-based car manufacturer is now accepting pre-orders on their website to gauge interest.

Back to the Future Car. The DMC-12 is most famous for being the time-traveling car used in the "Back to the Future" franchise. In the films, Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) builds a time machine based on his DMC-12 car. Together with Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), the two embark on a journey to fix some events in the past that have affected the present.

The DMC-12 time machine is given a Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor as a power source. This basically converts household waste to power the time machine's flux capacitor.

Similarly, the flux capacitor is a rectangular-shaped compartment with Geissler-style tubes forming the letter "Y". According to the movie, this is basically "what makes time travel possible."

Delorean DMC-12's Return. The US Government enacted the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act back in 2015. This allows small automakers to produce a small batch of vehicles without having to submit the cars to crash tests and federal regulations.

The Texas-based car company has already opened its pre-order form on its website. They are expecting to build around 300 DMC-12s. The company intends to construct around one car per month in its new facility.

No specifications for the car has been announced yet. While the car is technically a replica, it won't be exactly like the original. The 2017 DMC-12 will be an updated version.

It will have a new engine that complies with EPA requirements and better brakes as well. The exterior will look pretty much the same, but the interior will be redesigned. Additionally, the DMC-12 is expected to have an all-in-one infotainment system complete with a touchscreen and navigation.

The original DMC-12 was originally expected to cost $12,000 but ended up retailing for over $25,000. In the present, that would be around $66,000. While no official price has been released, the car is expected to be priced between $85,000 to $100,000.

The Delorean DMC-12 is a beautiful and iconic car. It is every geek's dream to drive his or her very own "Back to the Future" time machine. While the last blog announcement was in October, hopefully, the resurrection of the futuristic car will become a reality!
