BMW X4 M40i: A Powerful, Slim, And Agile Coupe

The BMW X4 M40i is practically a hatchback version of the X3. It is a coupe that evolved from a much larger design based off the compact luxury crossover SUV.

The BMW X4 M40i. The hyper-stylized fastback X4 sports side mirrors, grille slits, and lower intakes with Ferric Gray metallic accents. The accents are also found on the X4's optional 20-inch wheels with the 19-inch wheels being standard.

Sports seats adorn the insides of the X4 along with an M-design steering wheel. "M40i" is spelled out on the instrument panel and doorsills

The X4 sports a 3.0-liter twin-scroll, single-turbo, TwinPower six-cylinder engine. It is able to churn out 355 horsepower and 43 pound-foot of torque all thanks to improved boost pressure, upgraded pistons, high-performance spark plugs, a steel forged crankshaft, and a custom-tuned exhaust system.

The engine gives out a sharp and a mean sound with the sound getting sharper and meaner as the revs rise. The default drive mode is set at Comfort but popping the X4 into the Sport mode is what this car is really all about - fast, aggressive, smooth, and responsive.

The X4 features eight-speed Sport automatic transmission and a rear-biased xDrive all-wheel drive that enables it to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds. It is able to go a quarter of a mile in just 13.1 seconds at 105 miles per hour.

Inside the X4 is a compromised interior with the rear view being just a narrow slit. The wide door sills and low seats offer nothing but awkwardness. As it is set quite low, one will find it difficult to get it and will probably bang their heads in the process. Once inside a 6-footer will find headroom and legroom just adequate. Cargo space is just 18 cubic feet with the rear seats up.

Obviously, the X4 is one powerful but overlooked Bimmer, slim and agile. The retail price of the BMW X4 M440i starts at US$59,095.
