The F90 BMW M550i xDrive. The new M5 is expected to debut later this year. Exact details have yet to be announced by BMW itself.

An article from the website BMWBlog claims that the new BMW M5 will be able to go from zero to 100 kilometers per hour or 62 miles per hour in just 3.5 to 3.6 seconds. This is 0.6 seconds faster than the F10 M5 which is able to go that fast in 4.2 seconds. The G30 M550i xDrive sedan goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.0 seconds flat.

The quick acceleration of the F90 BMW M550i is courtesy of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 600 horsepower. The engine is paired with a dual-clutch transmission.

The M5 will have both all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive capabilities with just a push of a button. The all-wheel drive system will have a mode that disengages the front axle to allow the M5 to g on rear-wheel drive mode.

It is expected to directly compete with the Mercedez-AMG E63 S and the Cadillac CTS-V. The former is able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds while the latter clocks in at 3.7 seconds.

If BMW's claims prove to be true, the M5 could look to be the fastest non-M BMW 5 Series vehicle ever made. The only other BMW vehicle that clocks in less than four seconds from 0 to 60 miles per hour is the BMW M5 Jahre at 3.9 seconds.

Other specs that the new BMW M5 will feature are still unknown at this time. BMW enthusiasts are expecting the upcoming M5 to debut later this year with the car going into production early in the first half of 2018.
