Nokia Lumia 920 vs. iPhone 5: Unlocked Windows 8 Phone Shipping In U.S., Days After Apple Revealed Unlocked Phone

The second biggest cellphone provider in the world is planning on releasing its Lumia 920 smartphone through third-party re-sellers and will be shipped out starting sometime this week.

According to a report by Pop Herald, the yellow smartphone is in stock and will be shipped worldwide within the next coming days, though there is no official number of phones the company plans on selling unlocked.

The news is only a little surprising considering the fact that Apple announced just a few days ago that they would be releasing an unlocked version of their iPhone 5 device in the U.S. Both phones will come at a price however, as customers can expect to pay close to $750 for the unlocked Lumia 920. The unlocked iPhone will cost users $649 for the 16GB version according to The Washington Post.

The company has done a good job advertising the Lumia phone since it was released by focusing on its main features like Windows 8 and the fact that it runs on Microsoft's OS.

The Nokia Lumia has a 2000 mAh battery and a power-efficient LCD display with brightness mode establishes the phone as one of the "most efficient phones" ever produced according to Nokia. The company also seems satisfied with the camera option the phone provides. The 920 comes equipped with an 8.7 megapixel LED flash PureView camera that includes wide-angle optics.

Users have a top speed of 4G LTW, an advanced 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Internet Explorer. With full SkyDrive integration and backup, you can snyc up photos, music, and videos to other devices.

The Lumia is currently competing against companies like Apple and Nexus who currently offer the iPhone 5 and LG Nexus 4 smartphones. An unlocked Nexus 4 is also available online.

Both phones are a little more app friendly compared to the Lumia, but also cost more overall. The new iPhone and Nexus devices cost close to $200 each with a specific plan.

On Black Friday, arguably the biggest retail day of the year, the Lumia sold out completely by the middle of the day online. The company was ecstatic about the sales results on Black Friday which nearly shutdown the phone's online store due to heavy web traffic. They have yet to reveal how many phones they have sold so far since it was released a little over a month ago.

Early sales numbers indicate however that Nokia will sell "approximately" 20 million phones before releasing a new device again according to the company. They have yet to reveal what phone will be coming out next.

The phone has also been selling well on Amazon as it was on backorder for over two weeks due to the high demand for the phone. If the unlocked version of the Lumia 920 isn't for you, you can purchase one for around $99 with a two year contract through AT&T.
