January of 2016, the Swedish company released a new technology where users able to turn their 15.6-inch non-touchscreen laptops into interactive touch devices. They call it an AirBar connecting to a laptop through a single USB port.
The company behind AirBar device development named Neonode Inc.They specialize in Optical Interactive Sensing Technology to emit an invisible light field over a display that senses touch from gloves, finger and even paintbrush.
As long as the AirBAr is connected to a laptop via USB, the sensor sends a beam of invisible light across the screen from the moment the user picks up touchscreen presses and gestures. It is compatible with both Chrome operating systems and PC's running Windows 8.1 or 10.
The thin, sleek and lightweight, matte black bar attached magnetically to the bottom of the MacBook Air's display. By simply connecting it via USB and start touch screening to get the device working.
It works by sending up a light field that the fingers break by swiping and tapping. It provides Apple notebook enthusiasts with the ability to promptly and seamlessly activate touch and gesture functionalities on their MacBook Air display. The touch sensor is a sleek bar that magnetically connected to the bottom of a laptop display and plugs in through the USB to instantly activate touch and gesture capabilities without any software installation or requiring further configuration.
Buyers can choose from 13.3 inches, 14 inches and 15.6-inch size of AirBar. Neonode plans of improving its compatibility with the AirBar over the coming months to additional MacBooks models and Windows laptop sizes. There is a Windows PC-compatible version that comes in black while the MacBook Air version comes in a brushed aluminum silver.
Therefore, all users of the MacBook Air will then be able to enjoy touch and gesture functionalities on the laptop's display without missing a beat. The devices are available in stores including Amazon, BestBuy, and Wallmart.
