Jeep Patriot 2017 Review: Affordable, But Might Be Better to Wait for Next Year's Model

The Jeep Patriot 2017 is a five-passenger compact crossover SUV. It has a rough ride, a cheap interior, and a very slow engine. Unfortunately, apart from its affordable price, it doesn't have much to offer.

Pros and Features. The Patriot has optional flip-down tailgate speakers. It also has an above-average off-road capability with its Freedom Drive II. It is also very attractively priced.

Cons. The base engine is unrefined and sluggish. What's worse is it's paired to a droning CVT. Its steering wheel also doesn't telescope.

The Patriot has subpar crash test score. It also has an unsophisticated ride quality which is most noticeable when going over bumps. For a big car, it has minimal cargo space. The cabin materials are cheap.

What's New? The Patriot remains unchanged for 2017. A replacement is likely to come next year.

Models. The Jeep Patriot 2017 is available in Sport and Latitude. The Sport has two appearance-related packages: the Sport SE and 75th Anniversary Edition. The Latitude has a High Altitude Edition.

The Sport has standard equipment matching its modest price. It has 16-inch wheels, roof rails, fog lights, manual exterior mirrors, crank-down windows, and other bare tech features. The Sport SE package adds 17-inch wheels and other minor improvements. The 75th Anniversary package adds bronze-painted alloy wheels, a sunroof, and bronze exterior accents.

The Latitude has the same features as the Patriot Sport with the Power Value Group. It also has 17-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry, and other comfort features.

The Patriot Latitude has several packages as well. It had a Premium Sound Group which adds a nice sound system and speakers. There is also a Sun and Sound Group and a Security and Cargo Convenience Group. The High Altitude package consists of 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior trim, leather upholstery, and a sunroof.

Verdict. The Jeep Patriot 2017 is well priced but is lacking in a lot of areas. Unlike the Jeep Wrangler, the Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, there is much to be desired in the Patriot. Hopefully, a new redesign and model will be available soon.
