Hennessey Venom GT has built its 12th and final Venom GT since 2010. This is not counting the X1 prototype. The latest model, the "Final Edition," will officially signal the end of production.

Venom GT History. Road & Track Magazine invited Hennessey Performance and other supercars to participate in a 0-200 MPH shootout. They wanted to find out which car could accelerate to 200 MPH in the shortest amount of time.

Some of the supercars that competed were the Mercedes McLaren SLR, Ruf Porsche 911 Twin Turbo, the all-wheel drive Bugatti Veyron 16.4, and Lamborghini Murciellago. The Hennessey team brought the Venom 1000 Twin Turbo Viper.

The supercars all made several runs on the 2.9-mile long runway. This was in Lemoore Naval Air Station in central California.

The car that emerged victorious was the Hennessey Venom 1000 Viper. It was crowned king of the Road & Track "Speed Kings" shootout. The Venom 1000 Viper made was able to run 0 to 200 MPH in only 20.3 seconds. Second place went to the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 with 24.2 seconds.

Although they emerged victorious, Hennessey wanted to improve on their supercar. They started making sketches of a lighter Viper with a Twin Turbo engine in the back of a Lotus Exige.

The end result was a mid-engine design like the Ford GT. This allowed the weight of the motor and transmission to be directly over the rear tires for better traction. It was also under 3,000 pounds and had over 1000 horsepower. This was the Hennessey Venom GT.

Venom GT "Final Edition". The 12th and final Venom GT has already been sold to an undisclosed recipient. The supercar sold for $1.2 million.

It is a Spyder, which is an open top version of the Venom GT. Steven Tyler most recently auctioned his at Barrett-Jackson for charity. The supercar is finished in Glacier blue with white stripes.

Under its hood is a 7.0-liter GM-sourced V8 engine stuck in the middle. It runs around 25psi of boost and produces a whopping 1,451bhp. The latest model can now do 0-60 MPH in only 2.4 seconds, 0-100 MPH in 4.4 seconds, and 0-200 MPH in 12.8 seconds. It can do a quarter-mile in 9.4 seconds and hit a top speed above 280 MPH.

This "Final Edition" Hennessey Venom GT officially signals the last in production. The supercar manufacturing company will now focus on the 290 MPH+ Venom F5. It is expected to be faster and more powerful than the Bugatti Chiron.
