A new coupe has been revealed by Renault that will reincarnate its historic Alpine sports car brand. The new Alpine's car design will use an aluminum chassis to house the engine, transmission, and suspension. It has been engineered to ensure a flawless agility.
Autocar states that only a small number of carmakers use aluminum for the bodywork of their models. Sculpting assembling and welding aluminum call for a unique expertise. The reward is a significant weight saving and a high-quality finish.
They continue to expect the mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive coupe to weigh less than 1100kg and be powered by a new mid-mountain turbocharged 1.8-liter four cylinder petrol engine that will generate as much as 225W. The seats are trim in quilted upholstery and microfiber fabric and feature harness with aluminum buckles.
In front of the driver seat is an instrument panel comprises a customizable thin-film transistor display underneath a carbon cowling. The two pedals and the foot rest are aluminum with three-triangle pattern symbolizing Alpine peaks.
Major design features include a low, sleek profile, rounded bonnet, twin round headlights, sculpted sides with rear air intakes. It also comes with an elongated tail incorporating horizontal rear lights, diamond turned wheels and the brand's arrow "A badge" on the front wings and sides. The main switches are enhanced by Alpine Blue backlighting that also illuminates the center of the air vents.
A matching thick-rimmed steering wheel features three aluminum spokes, black leather trim, gearshift paddles and a Sports button. Distinctive features include an aluminum center console stack with floating tablet-style multimedia touch-screen topped by a circular stopwatch. The start button is activated by removing a pin.
After all Alpine Vision is owed as a concept car, the car maker says the eventual production model will be very close to it in terms of handling, design, agility and weight. Renaults, the Alpine sports car will be available later in 2017.
