Sandblaster New Peugeot 3008 DKR Evolves Up For 2017 Dakar Rally

Team Peugeot Total has built a brand-new machine to defend its Dakar title. The all-new Dakar challenge is based on an entirely new model of Peugeot 3008 DKR SUV that will be released soon. The new 3008 SUV is inspired by the latest evolution following the company's come back to Dakar after 25 years since 2015.

The 3008's drastic makeover is ready in an effort to add some glamor to Peugeot's dealers throughout the United States. The Peugeot 3008 DKR will be exposing the final racing costume together with the colors of partners Total, Red Bull, Sparco, and BF Goodrich.

The team is using a low-end torque in the 3.0-liter twin-turbodiesel V6 producing 340bhp and 800Nm of torque that will enough to keep that lightweight carbon fiber chassis hurtling towards its 124mph top speed. They also add a new restrictor on the engine as part of Dakar regulations which means it is around 20bhp down on the 2008 DKR and the 3008 DKR is even faster where it matters than its predecessor.

It also sticks with two-wheel drive. Its suspension geometry and dampers have been improved. A test program is also performed in taking in the grueling 15-day Silk Way Rally in order for the car to tackle the worst of the Dakar Rally.

Sebastien Criquet is Peugeot's senior exterior designer responsible for the aggressive lines of the both Peugeot 3008 DKR and the corresponding road car. The Dakar cars dimensions and features were governed by technical rules laid down by the sport's governing body but its inspiration is still very clear through a number of unique design cues.

Criquet revealed that the new car keeps the distinctive design language of the road car, but transports a rally context, and that is the dream job of any designer that when they create a car they always think of a competition version in the back of their mind.
