With strong ratings and positive reviews, Honda's head of cars in the U.K., Phil Webb teases that the 2017 Honda Civic will most likely appear at the British Touring Car Championship. Here are some updates on the new sedan which is set to go on sale this March in U.K.
In an interview with AutoExpress, Phil Webb revealed that they are already having discussions about joining the British Touring Car Championship. The Honda boss said they have an open mind when it comes to events like this and it is possible that the new 2017 Honda Civic can hop on board the competition too.
Furthermore, Honda has announced the price tags for the new Civic when it begins selling in the U.K. in March. The S-grade Civic has a price tag of $19,440 (£18,235) for the 127bhp 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine model, which has a manual gearbox. This 1.0-liter variant is also available in SR spec and sells at $21,510 (£20,180) and in EX trim at $24,560 (£23,040). Buyers will have the option to avail of its tech pack at $533 (£500).
On the other hand, the other model with 179bhp 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine sells at $23,950 (£22,470). This 1.5-liter variant is also available in Sport Plus at $27,000 (£25,335) and in Prestige at $27,805 (£26,085).
Meanwhile, the 2017 Honda Civic seems to have impressed two prestigious ratings agencies. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have both given perfect scores for the 2017 Civic sedan.
IIHS senior vice president Russ Rader told Boston.com that the 2017 Honda Civic lands the IIHS Top Safety Pick due to the sedan's front crash prevention system. Rader also mentioned that for the longest time, the Civic has been excelling in the safety performance tests of IIHS.
However, Rader also pointed out that the Civic has one slight weakness, which is the headlight. The senior vice president detailed that they have changed their criteria for 2017 to include very strict standards on having a good headlight performance. Rader explained that a good headlight will enable the driver to immediately see road dangers in advance to avoid accidents. Unfortunately, the Civic's headlights earned a poor rating on this criteria.
