Chevrolet Corvette 2017 Yenko is the New King of Horsepower

Chevy revealed its latest Chevrolet Corvette earlier this week. It is a modified Grand Sport Corvette which is capable of 800 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque. It will be branded as a "Yenko" and only 50 will be produced.

Don Yenko. Don Yenko is the "Caroll Shelby" of Chevrolet. He was a muscle car enthusiast in the 60s who built high-powered "Yenko Camaros." His Camaro's are famous for breaking GM's engine rule. The rule basically states that none of their engines should exceed 6.6-liters in size.

New Jersey Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE). SVE capitalized on Yenko's prestige among Chevrolet enthusiasts. They decided to modify a Corvette with the Yenko Camaro philosophy. SVE chose to transform a Chevy Corvette Grand Sport.

The New Jersey company increased the LT1 V-8's displacement from 6.2 liters to 6.8 and replaced several of its components in the process. They fitted the car with a forged steel crankshaft, CNC ported and polished cylinder heads and forged aluminum pistons.

A 2.9-liter twin-screw supercharger engine. This is fed by the fuel system from the LT4 V-8 which is ordinarily found in the Corvette Z06. With the addition of all of these modifications and the 6.8-liter engine, the Chevy Corvette officially transformed into a "Yenko."

The resulting car is amazing. It has a whopping 800 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque. This is achievable for both manual and automatic transmissions. The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport comes in a seven-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic.

The Chevrolet Corvette is technically only a Yenko in name. However, SVE pays homage to the muscle car builder with colorful stripes and accents as well as "Yenko/SC" markings all over the car.

Officially, SVE will unveil the Yenko Corvette to the public at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale sale. The Yenko Corvette's modifications will cost an extra $46,000 on top of the price of the Chevrolet Grand Sport Corvette. This will be available in both a coupe and convertible but only 50 will be built.
