The McLaren Special Operations or MSO has released their creation of the MSO Carbon Series LT. Limited only to 25 units globally and already sold. McLaren just introduced their new generation Super Series sports car which is an upgraded version of its 650S. This improved and hyped up body version will include a carbon fiber body with some metal features called MonoCage II.
Established by the McLaren F1 in the late 1990s, MSO Carbon Series has been built with a focus on lightweight and as well as optimized aerodynamic performance. It is designed with a gloss carbon fiber to the entire body of the car to further show its brutal beauty to the current 675LT Spider body.
According to an online publication, the last car has already been sold to an anonymous buyer. No details were given on the car's price tag but it will be leaving the UK headquarters soon for a far away destination.
The car was inspired by the carbon P1 displayed at the Geneva Motor Show last year. It boasts some 40 percent more carbon fiber compared to the 675LT Spider.
James Banks, Head of bespoke at MSO said, "If this car was painted in, say, orange, it wouldn't have the same impact. The carbon fiber on the body and chassis expresses what the vehicle is about."
Banks also added that the work done to the cars was all hand-made. The kind of intricate carbon tailoring needs a very specific set of skills and also requires many man hours. This is why all visual carbon is manufactured in a few batches and sold at a very high price. A technician would need to use his skills to chase the carbon into the mold and needs to align the pattern. It's a skilled job and the process is very, very slow.
Meanwhile, the MSO Carbon Series LT is the third model only to wear the LT badge. First to wear the badge was the 675LT Coupe and followed by the 675LT Spider. Under the gloss carbon fiber hood of the car lies a heavily-revised 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 powertrain which ensures that the performance of the car is worthy to wear the LT badge. Power output and torque figures remain the same, 675PS delivered at 7,100rpm and 700Nm available between 5,000-6,500rpm. The car also includes new and more efficient turbos, detail design changes to the cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds, new lightweight connecting rods and new camshaft, and a faster-flowing pump and delivery system.
Cars acceleration from 0-100 km only takes 2.9 seconds, and 124mph is reached in only 8.1 seconds. The car's performance is surprising but that is just how the McLaren is made. The cars top speed is a stunning 326 km/h.
