2017 BMW 3 Series M3 Review: What Makes it Legendary?

The 2017 BMW 3 series M3 is a best-selling, high-performing luxury sports sedan. The car is a combination of great performance, impressive comfort, and celebrated everyday utility.

Pros and Features. The 3 series BMW M3 is a four-door high-performance sedan that seats 5 people. It is based on the BMW 3 Series.

The M3 is a rear-wheel-drive with a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. It has 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.

Only one model is offered. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, and stock adaptive suspension dampers. An active locking rear differential, special M3 exterior body panels, and auto-dimming and power-folding heated mirrors.

The car also has keyless entry and ignition, leather upholstery, and heated 10-way power front seats with lumbar support. There are also carbon fiber accents as well as cruise control and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Tech features include BMW's iDrive infotainment interface, a navigation system, and Bluetooth connectivity. The car also has other basic tech features and a 16-speaker Harman Karon audio system.

Cons. The M3 has synthetic engine noises that aren't all that pleasing to hear. In addition, the steering's feedback needs improvement.

What's New? The 2017 BMW 3 series M3 is an amazing car year in and year out. This year it only received some minor improvements. First, the formerly optional adaptive suspension dampers were made the standard.

Additionally, the inside of the cabin is now equipped with BMW's iDrive infotainment interface. All new option packages are now offered as well. There is also a limited special edition 2017 "30 Jahre M3" which is a special release to commemorate 30 years of the 3 series BMW M3.

Pricing. The 3 series BMW M3 has an MSRP of $64,000. While there is only one model, it does have additional packages like the Competition and Executive ($3,900) packages. Luxury-level details are also offered such as special blacked-out kidney grills ($430), optional carbon fiber mirror caps ($1,040), super soft merino leather ($3,600), and M-spec Carbon Ceramic brakes ($8,150), among others.

Verdict. The 2017 BMW 3 series M3 is really one of the best high-performance luxury sedans out there. Its base model's price is not that bad and it allows a lot of room for modifications and options. All in all, it is a great looking luxury executive car that remains sporty and powerful.
