Nintendo Switch Dropped Miiverse And StreetPass - Reason Behind?

Nintendo Switch has confirmed dropping its original Miiverse and StreetPass services at the Treehouse Live event today. Although not every Nintendo fans agreed to this decision. But, the company has some pretty interesting reason behind.

David Young, Nintendo of America's assistant manager specifically mention that the company will not integrate the Miiverse and StreetPass services for Switch. The company will, therefore, utilize big social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. It is very evident that Nintendo does not want to compete against these platforms.

The Miiverse and StreetPass are both services where gamers can share photos using the 3DS and Wii consoles. It is also a small community for Nintendo players to discuss and share certain topics. According to Nintendo Life, using the big platforms in social media can spread awareness of the Switch, rather than staying in a confined "walled garden" like Miiverse.

Young emphasized the reason behind Switch dropping the StreetPass and Miiverse services. According to his statement, Nintendo Switch is also a home console, therefore, gamers do not carry the console all the time. Clearly, Nintendo does not want to instill a mindset that Nintendo Switch is the same kind of deal.

Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime added that Nintendo Switch aims to provide a more robust set of opportunities for both consumers and developers. Also, Reggie was asked by IGN regarding Nintendo Switch's voice chat tied to a mobile app. He said "the ability to do matchmaking, voice chat through your phone, it's a hell of a lot more convenient than having a gamer headset stuck into your backpack trying to do that. That's why we're doing it the way we are. We see the convenience, we see the ease of delivery. We think it's going to lead to a better experience."
