Way back in 2014 Beijing Auto show, Bentley introduced a Mulsanne concept car that was equipped with a plug-in hybrid technology.  It has been reported by Automotive News that the famous luxury brand Bentley will be offering a plug-in hybrid technology to its entire fleet in the next coming years.

A few of Bentley's first vehicles that will be tasting the plug-in hybrid technology will be the Bentayga and the all-new Continental GT. Bentley confirmed that the plug-in Bentayga will be released in 2018, while the plug-in Continental GT will only be appearing after a new W-12-powered model debut.

Bentley's CEO, Wolfgang Durheimer told A.N. that the plug-in versions will be equipped with a V-6 engine, however, its power output should reach to V-8 levels, meaning output that could reach 500 hp. He also added, "Adding performance and efficiency with no compromise to luxury, plug-in hybrids are an important part of Bentley's exciting future."

Furthermore, Bentley didn't yet reveal full details on its new plug-in hybrid system, but one thing is for sure, it will involve the integration of an electric motor-generator with the transmission. The plug-in system will have three separate driving modes: gas only, electric only and combined hybrid.

The electric motor will be powered by an onboard lithium-ion battery. It can also be charged at home using only the normal power outlet or on the road with brake energy recovery that will be installed in the vehicle. Durheimer also mentioned at the 2017 Automotive News World Congress that was held in Detroit that "PHEV sometimes is mentioned as a transitional technology - it will be out of our way pretty soon."

The plug-in hybrid technology is fit for Bentley since it allows zero-emission driving around town, Durheimer said. The technology will soon be necessary for several major cities only if there will be no problems of having to stop and charge up on long drives such as electric cars.
