2017 Nissan Altima Review: Powerful and Distinct

The 2017 Nissan Altima has a powerful engine and very good fuel economy. It has a nice interior and distinct styling aspects that make it very hard to miss.

Pros and Features. The engine and transmission are optimized for both quick responses and a strong acceleration. Considering its size, it has excellent fuel economy. The Altima's front seats are considered to be some of the most comfortable in its class.

The Nissan car's standard safety features have added stability and traction control, standard antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags and a full-length side curtain airbag. The car also has a rearview camera on all models except the Base. It has a forward collision warning and crash mitigating systems. It is also hooked up to NissanConnect Services.

Cons. The interior's design and material lack an overall high-quality look. It looks too simple and plain just like its outdated technology interface. The car is also relatively loud on the road.

Additionally, its steering is a complete miss. It's hard to maneuver at low speeds and it overreacts at higher speeds.

What's New? This year's model saw no significant changes. Everything remained relatively the same.

Models. The 2017 Nissan Altima is available in five models: Base, S, SR, SV, and SL. The Base, S, and SV models have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The SR and SL models have a 3.5-liter V6 engine.

The Altima's Base model has 16-inch steel wheels, keyless remote entry, push-button ignition, and a six-way manually adjustable driver seat. It also features Nissan's Easy-Fill Tire Alert system and Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity.

The S model has automatic headlights, keyless ignition and entry, cruise control, and Siri Eyes Free voice recognition. The SR is sportier and features sporty upgrades like the larger engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, foglights, a rear spoiler, and a sport-tuned suspension.

The SV trim has 17-inch alloy wheels and a remote start engine. It packs all the features of the S model along with it.

The SL has a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and leather upholstery. It has a Bose speaker system and the 3.5-liter engine even has a Google-based navigation system.

Pricing. The 3.5-liter S model starts at $24,735 and the SR has an MSRP of $26,765. The SV is priced at $28,035. The 2.5 SL is priced at $30,865 while the 3.5 SL has an MSRP of $35,365.

Verdict. The 2017 Nissan Altima is a dependable and fuel efficient car. While it is not as flashy and loaded with as many features as similar models, it is still a very good and reliable car. It is one of the most comfortable and spacious mid-size sedans.
