Honda Civic Type-R FK2 Latest News: 10th Generation Release Soon; Limited 9th Generation 'Black Edition' Announced, Only 100 Made

Honda has revealed a limited 'Black Edition' for its ninth generation Honda Civic Type-R. Only 100 units have been produced, signaling the close of the current Civic FK 2. This is a perfect swansong to end the current line and to welcome the tenth generation which will be available soon during the Geneva Auto Show.

Swansong, the Limited 'Black Edition'. The Ninth Generation Civic Type-R's production is officially coming to a close. Only 2,500 of the Type-R variants have been produced since 2015. The latest 'Black Edition' was officially revealed to end the current model's production as its swansong. Only 100 models were produced.

The limited edition will get a special black and red interior color scheme. Its exterior paint is a beautiful glossy black with red details and accents. This is purely a cosmetics upgrade and there have been no mechanical upgrades to the current ninth-generation car.

The Type-R 'Black Edition' will cost $39,300 (£32,300). This is the same price as the range-topping Civic Type R GT. However, the limited 'Black Editions' will potentially have a larger resell value considering its very restricted availability. All 100 of the limited editions have already been produced and on their way to dealers across the UK.

2018 Civic Type-R. The latest tenth-generation Type-R is scheduled to make its debut during the 2017 Geneva Auto Show in March. Its arrival in America has already been confirmed by the Japanese automaker. The 2018 model is expected to arrive before the end of the year, with production officially commencing last September of 2016. Similar to the Honda Civic hatchback, the powerful Type-R cars are also assembled in the UK plant.

While the specs of the car have not yet been revealed, it is expected to be a real beast which will be available in manual-only transmission, similar to its predecessor. While there were previous rumors about a CVT variant, Honda has officially debunked it and clarified that the tenth-generation Type R will only be available in MT.

One thing is certain, Honda has done a fantastic job once again this year. North America has already gotten the Honda Civic hatchback and a fantastic redesigned Civic, people can now expect the Civic Si and Civic Type-R as well.
