2017 Toyota Corolla Review: Simple and Small, but a Smart Choice

The 2017 Corolla is a dependable and unflashy small sedan. It has good fuel economy and a comfortable interior. While it could add more power to the engine, it is a fantastic basic starter car.

Pros and Features. The 2017 Toyota Corolla takes comfort into consideration, providing a lot of rear legroom. Its backseat is nice and roomy even for adults. The built-in infotainment interface has remarkably user-friendly controls.

The LE Eco model has amazing high fuel economy. Additionally, a lot of standard equipment is also available. All in all, it has a pleasant ride quality both on the highway and in the city.

The Corolla now has better available safety equipment. It is also a better value for money. LED headlights are now also a standard.

Cons. Unlike its main rivals, Corolla has a slow acceleration. In addition, many of its latest accident avoidance features are not yet available.

It also fails to inspire much driving excitement. Its L model also comes with an outdated four-speed automatic transmission. It could really use a little more power. It is also uncomfortable for taller passengers due to its tight head room.

What's New? There were only minor changes for the 2017 Toyota Corolla. There are now new models and a 50th Anniversary Limited Edition. Only 8,000 special models were sold in only three colors.

Models. The 2017 Corolla is available in 7 models: L, LE, LE Eco, XLE, SE, SE 50th Anniversary Edition, and XSE. The base L model includes 15-inch steel wheels, bi-LED headlights, and LED running lights. It also has power mirrors, doors and locks, an adaptive cruise control, and a six-way adjustable driver seat.

The LE has 16-inch steel wheels and a keyless entry. The LE Eco has better fuel efficiency. The XLE has keyless ignition and entry, upgraded headlights, a sunroof, and other upgraded features.

The SE is the sporty version that offers a CT and six-speed manual transmission. The SE 50th Anniversary has a Black Cherry contrast stitching and gray-painted 17-inch wheels. The XSE has the same features as the SE CVT but adds more to it.

Pricing. The Basic model L 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 4A) has an MSRP of $19,088. The Well-Equipped model LE 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl CVT) has an MSRP of $19,923. The Fully-Loaded model S 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl CVT) has an MSRP of $22,103.

Verdict. The 2017 Toyota Corolla looks simple on the outside but has a lot of things going on inside. It has good safety and comfort features and a very good price point. While it could use more power, it is still a very decent small sedan.
