Ford Mustang Beats Chevrolet Camaro And Dodge Challenger In Sales, But Still Suffers The Biggest Sales Fall

A new year means a new start and all brands are now making a recount of their sales and analyzing the results. As it looks like, 2016 had been a bad year for Muscle Cars sales in the United States as Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger all had decreased sales. The Mustang may have beaten the Camaro and Challenger and may still hold the highest selling muscle car in the US title but it is also the biggest loser in sales percentage.

As the SUV and truck segments rise in the US, the muscle car segment experienced a slight downturn which has affected mainly the top three Muscle Cars in the history: the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger, according to AutoEvolution.

Dodge Challenger

Dodge has seen its numbers fall 2.8 percent from 2015 with sales of around 64,478 compared to the previous year's 66,365. It is an understandable decrease considering that the Dodge Challenger has the oldest model of the group and may need an urgent replacement. It has a scheduled update that will again be delayed and everyone will not expect to see it in at least the next two years.

Chevrolet Camaro

The Chevrolet Camaro is perhaps the most worrying since 2016 was meant for Chevrolet. Its most recent model was presented mid-2015 and 2016 was its first full year on the market. The Camaro fell 6.2 percent from 2015 with sales of around 72,705 compared to the previous year's 77,502.

In September alone, the Chevrolet Camaro overtook the Ford Mustang in monthly sales mainly due to two factors. First, the Camaro enjoyed the last months of 2016 significant discounts to lighten their stocks and make room for their 2017 units. Second, the Mustang suffered a serious fall at the end of the year forcing a stoppage to its assembly plan for a week. And finally, in December, the Camaro saw a rebound with 31 percent more deliveries over the same month in 2015. However, that was not enough as its sales continue to drop since 2011, their best year of the decade.

Ford Mustang

As for the Ford Mustang. it won over the Camaro and the Challenger but still has the biggest decreased sales. In 2016, it yielded a 13.4 percent decrease compared to 2015 and got 105,932 sales compared to the 122,349 from the previous year. However, this shouldn't be considered as a bad year as Mustang again goes beyond the 100,000 mark.

Since it began marketing the sixth generation, the Ford Mustang was always first on muscle car sales. It even inspired its competitor to go the hybrid way ever since Mustang announced it will have a hybrid version before 2020, according to DailyKnoxville

Ford Mustang sales drop from 2015 is clear and comprehensive, but is still a great figure which will surely increase with the arrival of the 2018 Mustang. As for market share, the Mustang can also be proud of its 43.6 percent while the Camaro grabbed 29.9 percent and 26.5 percent for the Challenger.
