The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 has just kicked off in Las Vegas and will run this week. The technology tradeshow isn't all about gaming processors, drones, and gadgets. New car technologies are expected to wow crowds in the Nevada city before they head to the Detroit Auto Show.

Making head turns at CES 2017 is Faraday Future's FF 91 super fast electric car. The two-year-old startup unveiled the self-driving EV that can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.39 seconds. The company claims that the FF91 is faster than Tesla's Model S which can reach the same speed in 2.5 seconds.

The FF 91's live demo at CES 2017 was held at a car park where the electric car drove itself around and backed into an empty space. The FF91 will be available in 2018. Customers need to pay a refundable $5000 to pre-order.

Another new car technology at CES 2017 is the much buzzed-about NeUV which is described by Honda as a concept automated EV vehicle. The Japanese automaker aims to market the NeuV as a commuter car of the future. The vehicle is equipped with a computer-infused interior and will be designed to address traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, BMW will showcase at CES 2017 the HoloActive Touch, which is an improved version of its Gesture Control system currently installed in the flagship 7-Series sedans. The HoloActive Touch eliminates the need for buttons and offers a free-floating projection with which drivers can interact using their fingertips.

Other automakers are presenting new car technologies at CES 2017. Nissan is collaborating with Microsoft to integrate the Cortana intelligent personal assistant into its cars while Toyota will highlight a new concept car and a new framework for telematics systems. Hyundai will roll out its autonomous Ioniq concept sedans in a demonstration using immersive VR simulators.
