Spotted: The 2018 Buick Regal Sedan And Wagon

A completely undisguised next-generation 2018 Buick Regal Sedan and Wagon were spied. They may likely arrive sometime next year.

According to msn, the 2018 Buick Regal looks are crisp, with clean lines, and an athletic stance, but the most exciting news from their standpoint is that the Buick will offer a Regal wagon. Given that there have been trademark filings of the name "Regal TourX," the U.S. version of the wagon could be a sort-of raised, crossover-inspired variant like the Subaru Outback or the Volvo Cross Country, including a standard all-wheel drive and a bit of extra body cladding. Its sedan will come standard with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available as an option like it is on the current Regal.

Buick could find a niche if its 2018 Buick Regal wagon is priced reasonably. The platform: a version of GM's Epsilon architecture, likely the E2XX platform found in the new Chevrolet Malibu. The powertrain: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder coupled with GM's new nine-speed automatic transmission resembling the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu's where it makes 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. GM is expected to shift from Regal's current base engine, a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder, although a smaller-displacement turbocharged four-cylinder such as the Malibu's 1.5-litr unit is a possibility on lower trim levels. Possibly, with 300 horsepower, the Regal GS could use a higher-output version of the same 2.0-liter turbo. It is not certain though, if the six-speed manual offered in the current Regal BS will still be available but some customers hope so. The competition: Acura TLX, Lincoln MKZ, Volvo S60/V60, Lexus ES, Audi A4/A4 Allroad, and BMW 3-Series.

According to autoblog, aside from the generic taillights, the lines and details are all pretty fresh and there are some design elements pulled from Buick's gorgeous Avista concept. A sweeping roofline leads to some healthy shoulders at the back, creating coupe-like profile with a very abbreviated rear deck which is a big improvement over the somewhat bulbous current Regal.
