From a previously mocked debut in September, Apple's CEO calls the AirPods a "runaway success". The wireless headphones are in a huge demand and they are a hit for the holidays.

According to Busines Insider, Apple CEO Tim Cook is in New York City for a couple of days and CNBC managed to grab Cook for a quick interview to ask him about business at Apple and whether it is speeding up the production of the Apple AirPods, the company's first wireless earphones which was launched earlier this month. Cook mentioned that Apple is making them as fast as it can.

The Apple AirPods were introduced in September at Apple's iPhone event. They were originally scheduled for release in October but Apple delayed the said release, saying it needed a little more time while other sources say that according to reports, the issue was technical, that Apple had to ensure the connectivity of the AirPods with the simultaneous activity of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Apple had finally started selling the AirPods on December 13 but due to limited quantities and likely a very high demand, the shipping and delivery dates shifted from December 2016 to January 2017 or later.

According to cnet, the $159 headphones were put on back order within a few hours after their release on December 13 and they have taken off to become a holiday hit, Apple's CEO said. Buyers will have to wait for up to six weeks for the AirPods to ship out.

The Apple AirPods will be offered in more than 100 countries including the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Mexico, France, India, Japan, and China. All the anticipating customers will have to wait for more than a month before they can enjoy the hyped headphones as Apple pushes to meet their demands.
