Why 'Pokemon Go' Is Not Meant For Apple Watch

Niantic has recently released their Pokemon Go app for the Apple Watch. While a lot of avid fans of the Pokemon app were excited about this release, it came as a bitter disappointment.

After months of waiting, the Pokemon app has finally been released for the Apple Watch. The Pokemon game for the Apple Watch was first revealed by Niantic back in September during Apple's iPhone 7 debut event.

The Apple Watch app version of the beloved app was released as part of the December 22, 2016 iOS (version 1.21.2) update. In order to download the game, the user's app must first be updated to the latest version. Once downloaded, the user will have to access the app from their iPhone and allow the app to run in the background.

The Apple Watch, which has been primarily marketed to health and fitness enthusiasts, will get another app to use with their device. Since Pokemon Go users have reported using the app to get some exercise, it makes perfect sense to purchase the app for your Apple Watch or the purchase the Apple Watch to enhance your game.

But after installing the Pokemon app for the Apple Watch, users will be in for a surprise. While users will be able to get credit for exercising towards Pokemon candy and hatching eggs, a lot of other features are missing for the Apple Watch. Most notably, users are not able to catch Pokemon using their Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch will get inconsistent Pokemon app notifications from the app. In addition, the Apple Watch app for Pokemon does not allow the users to add eggs to their incubators, view their Pokemon collection, transfer or evolve their Pokemon, battle at gyms, or view or buy items.

In fact, the Apple Watch won't even tell users where nearby Pokemon actually are. When the user is notified of a Pokemon within the area, the user will have to first take their phone out in order to see where the nearby Pokemon actually are in order to catch the Pokemon. This renders the Apple Watch for Pokemon Go practically useless.
