2017 BMW I8 And 2017 BMW I3 To Have More Power, More Range And Styling Changes

The 2017 BMW I8 and 2017 BMW I3 are set to undergo styling changes as well as major updates to improve power and electric range. This will be done by increasing the power provided by the combustion engine that incorporates the hybrid system.

For several months, it has been reported that the facelifted 2017 BMW I8 and 2017 BMW I3 is coming. This week, an internal leak suggest that the facelifted version will also bring important developments on both a technical and mechanical level, according to BMWBlog.

The 2017 BMW I8 will be characterized by having an updated plug-in hybrid system that will yield higher power. The internal combustion engine of 1.5 liters and three cylinders that acts on the rear axle will increase its power by about 15 hp. Therefore, the final power can reach 377 hp. Currently, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is in 4.4 seconds and the 2017 BMW I8 is expected to improve on that time.

Another major change to the 2017 BMW I8 is related to the battery pack, according to CarScoops. The EV currently used will be replaced with a higher capacity that will allow to double its 100 percent electric range, to go from the current 37 kilometers to 74 km. Although it is yet to be confirmed, there is talk of a packet of 10 kWh in order to obtain this figure.

Additionally, a 2017 BMW I8 S might be on the table. A few months ago, our spy photographers managed to catch a mysterious prototype of BMW. It seems that the German manufacturer is to launch a more powerful and performance-based version of its sporty plug-in hybrid. Under the label "S," we will find great technical and mechanical novelties including a sportier suspension and larger brakes.

The hybrid system in the BMW I8 currently yields a total power of 362 hp, so we are convinced that the future 2017 BMW I8 S can pass the barrier of 400 hp, positioning itself as an even more radical and sporty alternative to the BMW I8. In addition, with this increase in power, it will be possible to capture the attention of customers who are looking for additional benefits of which the current I8 is short on.

On the other hand, the 2017 BMW I3 could debut sometime next year, having both mechanical and aesthetic updates. First, the 2017 BMW I3 will feature a new high-capacity battery that allows it to travel well above the 300 kilometers the current range promises in terms of autonomy. We do not know at the moment what the capacity increase will be, but it is said to be no more than 50 percent of what it currently offers.
