The BMW 5-series lineup, representing next generation cars, will have its first public appearance at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show on January next year. The BMW 5-series lineup 540i, hybrid 530e iPerformance and M550 xDrive will have their place on a stage in the famed auto show. Representing the 7th generation of BMW 5-series lineup, these vehicles are slightly bigger, longer and wider than the previous generation.
In addition to the increased dimensions, the BMW 5-series lineup is packed with the latest technology in communication systems. Added features include semiautonomous driving, a telephone and infotainment system that is controlled by gestures, safety features and the car being able to park itself while the driver is outside.
The cars in the series are equipped with instruments that enable them to avoid collisions while moving between 40 to 130 mph. It also comes with active cruise control using radars, lane keeping and traffic jam assist that works even at 130 mph, according to Automotive News.
The BMW 5-series lineup resembles the third generation series, albeit slightly inflated. It has automatic shutters for aerodynamic enhancement with larger LED taillights while the exterior is dressed up in an M sport package that contains an M sport steering wheel, aluminum pedal trim and optional black leather stitching, according to Car and Driver.
Drivers may drive in Eco Pro mode, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Adaptive mode. Sport plus mode makes the car go faster while adaptive mode adjusts speed depending on how it interprets the way you are driving. The cars in the series are very quiet, even on rough roads, according to Road Show by CNET.
With BMW having sold a couple million cars under the BMW 5 series, it is predicted that the latest generation series will draw more buyers who won't think twice about paying £43,000 ($54,000) to £46,000 ($57,000). But despite the price, it will be a serious competitor for the Mercedes Benz E-Class sedan.
