Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date & Other Rumors [VIDEO]; Upcoming Galaxy S Series Flagship To Oust Headphone Jack?

Multiple sources reported earlier this year that Samsung is likely to follow the footsteps of Apple and oust the 3.5mm headphone jack on its upcoming Galaxy S series flagship device: the Samsung Galaxy S8.

While this stirred conversations among some avid Galaxy fans, many considered it to be a 2016 fad. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to debut in Feb. 2017 at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017; but just a few months away from its highly anticipated launch, some interesting details about the smartphone have surfaced online via SamMobile.

It looks like previous reports hinting that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will not feature a headphone jack was proven to be true. Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone will reportedly feature a USB Type-C port instead. This means, Samsung Galaxy S8 users will have to utilize a USB Type-C port for the purpose of charging their smartphone and listening to music.

Interestingly, the Galaxy Note 7 featured a USB Type-C port, too; however, the device turned out to be a setback for the South Korean handset maker. While there's no word on how Samsung plans to fill up space from the allegedly defunct headphone jack, the publication believes the company will use it to expand battery capacity.

In terms of specs, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with a 2K Super AMOLED panel, contrary to previous reports indicating that the smartphone will pack a 4K display. Although the new screen will retain its resolution, it will oust the PenTile Diamond pixel layout in favor of the standard RGB color layout.

Another rumor surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S8 suggests that the smartphone will get rid of its physical home button and fingerprint scanner --- replacing it with an optical finger recognition system, which will be built within the display, Phone Arena reported.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been subject to umpteen leaks and rumors, with the latest one suggesting that the S8 will come with an overhauled AI assistant. Other speculations surrounding the smartphone claim that it will ship with Harman stereo speakers.
